Getting Started

Your first intake appointment will typically be 55 minutes. Subsequent sessions are generally 45 to 50 minutes. The goal of your first visit is three-fold: to get to know your (1) history, (2) current struggles and (3) hopes and goals for the future. By the end of this first session we should have a “game plan” for moving forward.

It is also our goal in the first session to make new clients feel as comfortable as possible and also address any questions you may have about ourselves or the counseling process in general. We see therapy as a collaborative process. We will work together to help you reach the goals that are important to YOU.

The frequency of sessions and length of treatment will depend on the severity and persistence of your concerns. Some clients get what they need in two or three sessions, others come for much longer, depending on their needs. We generally recommend weekly appointments at first, and then reassess once we both feel the process is moving in the right direction.

Insurance
We are not in network with any insurance providers. We prefer to work for our clients, rather than insurance companies. Many people are surprised to know that the rules of confidentiality don’t apply with their insurance company and many dictate the type and duration of treatment. These should be decisions left to the client and counselor, in our opinion.

However, we may be considered an out of network provider with your insurance company. Please contact your insurance company to see if you have out of network benefits. In this case, we can provide you with a receipt complete with all clinical data for you to submit to your insurance carrier, who may then reimburse you. Also, remember your HEALTH INSURANCE SAVINGS ACCOUNT can be accessed for mental health treatment! Many people do not realize this.
